Glass Art

I love to look at what artists are doing and what they can exhibit. Every new exhibit goes on the resume and presumably helps one to sell said art. Or perhaps gets the exhibition displayed at another venue. That said, this person got an artist’s residency at the local university, which means a bit of money and a chance to talk about one’s art (always a plus).

These are globes of uranium glass. They’re mounted on a platform with holes to hold each globe and black lights underneath. The lights were controlled by a timer to shine brighter then dimmer so it was an interactive display.

So the room was dark and there was artwork hanging on the wall, which made it more spectacular.

They looked really cool.

And they showed a variety of techniques.

When I was looking at the pictures from this show I noticed that this fellow patron had stepped into a spotlight and looked rather eerie, a floating head in the darkness. The artist did speak about the meaning of these pieces, but I wasn’t paying attention (my bad, after all she had come all the way from Japan). But I did appreciate both the craft and vision of her art.
