I sometimes wonder how so many \u00a0people can live together in cities. \u00a0 I got an answer of sorts this weekend at the different festivals that were going on: \u00a0people split up into tribes. \u00a0The first tribe I visited were the lovers of motorbikes. \u00a0There were lots of them, split into the various sub-tribes: \u00a0Leather wearers, old guys on expensive bikes, young guys on cafe racers, etc.<\/p>\n

Next up there was Juneteenth, \u00a0an African-American holiday. \u00a0 When the Civil War started, many slave-owners took people to the Republic of Texas, to avoid having to free them. \u00a0 News of the Emancipation Proclamation took 2 1\/2 years to reach there, and this event commemorates that day. \u00a0This is a festival with food: \u00a0bbq ribs, chicken, hot links and sides and it was delicious. \u00a0It had rained right before I took the picture, so there weren’t very many people around.<\/p>\n

There was a Celtic festival in a nearby park and it was fine excuse for men to break out their kilts and bagpipes. \u00a0 There was plenty of beer and whiskey to be had, and Miss P and I had a delicious sausage roll.<\/p>\n

There was also a group playing football (soccer), \u00a0and they looked to be immigrants. \u00a0(I guessed this because they were not speaking English, and they were playing football.)<\/p>\n

There was yet another tribe at the park, skateboarders. \u00a0They are there with the most frequency because they have a permanent structure.<\/p>\n

This is just a small sampling of the many tribes from around here. \u00a0You don’t need a sorting hat to figure out which one you belong to, just show up. \u00a0And of course you don’t have to belong to just one tribe. \u00a0You can find me on the outskirts, looking in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
