{"id":3166,"date":"2018-08-26T11:21:15","date_gmt":"2018-08-26T20:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/?p=3166"},"modified":"2018-08-26T11:47:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-26T21:17:18","slug":"over-in-a-meadow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/?p=3166","title":{"rendered":"Over in a meadow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time I had an ordinary boring suburban lawn.\u00a0 You know the sort, you water it to make it grow, then you mow it to keep it tidy, then repeat again and again.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a mark of respectability to have a nice lawn.\u00a0 \u00a0Some years ago, we started out with a thirsty bluegrass lawn. Then there was a drought, and the bluegrass mostly died.\u00a0 \u00a0(We really never liked bluegrass, but it came with the house).\u00a0 \u00a0When the drought was over we replanted the yard in native buffalo grass.\u00a0 (It does not grow very tall and it was what M&#8217;s Grandma had in her yard).\u00a0 But over time various other plants have encroached into the lawn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3167\" src=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This yellow buttercup seeded itself into the lawn this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3168\" src=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow1-300x261.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow1-300x261.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow1-768x669.jpg 768w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow1-1024x892.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As did this sunflower, although I suspect that the squirrels may have had a hand in it&#8217;s being there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3169\" src=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow2-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Flowering sage was planted in the flowerbed near the house, but found this a little too confining, so it escaped out into the lawn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3170\" src=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3-768x767.jpg 768w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow3-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oregano flourishes near the front steps.\u00a0 \u00a0A favorite of the bees, the plants sprang up from seeds that leapt over the concrete.\u00a0 Every year this patch gets a little bigger, perhaps it will completely take over my yard in due course.\u00a0\u00a0That&#8217;s not a black snake hiding among the plants, it&#8217;s the hose.\u00a0 (I do water things every now and again).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3171\" src=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4-768x767.jpg 768w, https:\/\/flytippings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/meadow4-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And who is the master of this tiny kingdom?\u00a0 \u00a0Why it&#8217;s the bunny of course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time I had an ordinary boring suburban lawn.\u00a0 You know the sort, you water it to make it grow, then you mow it to keep it tidy, then repeat again and again.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a mark of respectability to have a nice lawn.\u00a0 \u00a0Some years ago, we started out with a thirsty bluegrass &hellip;
