It is three years since the terrible day, the terrible day, when I lost my husband and I was lost. \u00a0 Once upon a time, I was a professional quilter. \u00a0People would bring me the bits and I would quilt them together on a giant industrial machine. \u00a0 But, I found myself unable to work. \u00a0 A friend suggested that I come to a knitting circle with her, so I went. \u00a0 In this time I have knitted two sweaters,<\/p>\n

hats and neck warmers,<\/p>\n

\"KODAK<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

an image of my favorite monster, Cthulu,<\/p>\n

little shawls,<\/p>\n

\"KODAK<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and innumerable scarves.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some I wear, some I have given away, but most of these sit in the box. \u00a0People sometimes ask ‘What am I going to do with them? \u00a0 Do I want to donate them to a charity?’ \u00a0 The answer is always “No”. \u00a0 They just exist in the box, that is their purpose.<\/p>\n

This is the latest thing I finished. \u00a0A friend recently died quite unexpectedly. \u00a0 She was working on this baby afghan for another friend’s first grandbaby. \u00a0This was mostly done, and it was one of her last wishes that this project be finished, so I completed this for her.<\/p>\n

There is something soothing in the mechanical action of forming stitch after stitch. \u00a0 The project takes shape, comes together and is complete, a tiny bit of order in the chaos of life.<\/p>\n
